Summer Sangria: July 4th Recipe

Summer Sangria Recipe for July 4th

There’s nothing more American than grabbing a drink with friends and celebrating an event as historic as Independence Day. It’s been a little over a year now since I studied abroad in Spain and was exposed to one of my favorite drinks right up there with ginger ale: Sangria. Sangria is to Spain as beer is to America. Their drinking ages are a bit different than they are here which has prevented me from having the sugary goodness ever since. However, I believe it’s my duty to help America transition to a new national drink and I would be remiss if I didn’t share my love for Spanish culture one post at a time.

So, in honor of 4th of July I created a beautiful alternative to the predictable ‘Budweiser’ and replaced it with Sangria with a twist. This is a simple recipe that infuses some of your favorite fruits and it’s only 130 calories! Follow my recipe and tips below for the perfect July 4th Sangria!

Summertime Sangria Recipe

If you feel personally victimized from under-21 problems like myself, switch out the white wine for white grape juice.

Summertime Sangria Recipe

Ingredients:

1 Lime

1 Lemon

An apple

 A liter of Ginger Ale

1 Bottle of White Grape Juice (or Chardonnay)

Directions:

1: Slice the fruit however you would like (warning: cutting apple slices into circles is a lot more difficult than it looks) and add it to the bottom of your pitcher or container.

2: Pour in 2 cups of white grape juice (or Chardonnay) and let it “marinate” for at least 1 hour in the fridge.

3: Once chilled, add in your Ginger Ale until the pitcher is half full and mix thoroughly

4. Now this is where you can have a bit of taste testing. I added in the rest of the white grape juice until it was exactly how I wanted, but most recipes call for you to add the rest of the bottle.

Y Perfecto!

You’ve just created the perfect {4th of July} Sangria!

The day after tasted a little bit different than the first because of the amount of citrus fruits. Switch to strawberries, blueberries, or pears for a more neutral and patriotic look! I just love lemon, lime, and apples!

It’s now your civic duty to share this with your fellow Americans and enjoy this land of the free and home of the cocktails. Want some star-spangled style inspirations? Shop my July 4th looks here or below! Have a safe weekend and enjoy the holidays!
