“I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work. Hard work”… –  The Auburn Creed, George Petrie

I could write an entire blog about my love for Auburn and the impact it had on my life . As a scared little freshman from out-of-state, I came in knowing only a handful of people who already had their own lives on campus. After graduating from a high school with 140 people, I didn’t mind getting the chance to meet new students. I forced myself to get involved with anything I could get my hands on. I was in freshman leadership programs, gospel choir, campus ministry small groups, a hostess for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, a sorority, and more. Yeah, I didn’t sleep a lot that year! Ha. But with each new activity I found more ways to fall in love with my home on the plains.

I started my journey at Auburn as a pre-med major with an emphasis on nutrition science. I found this to be the expected choice considering my entire family is filled with health care professionals. Not only was it the expected, but it was easier. Definitely not in terms of classes (we can talk about my struggles with chemistry at a different time lol) but in choosing my pathway for life. I tried to ignore God’s calling for me and picked a career that would cause the least amount of controversy in my family. As time went on, I became depressed and confused as graduation grew closer.

It was during this time that I decided to create something that was just for me.  I was in desperate need of a cathartic release after the stress of school that would blend topics I was truly passionate about: social media and fashion.  And BAM! GoodTomiCha was born! As I explored the world of blogging, I came to the conclusion that I (deep down) knew since high school. I wanted a career in business.

It’s a scary decision to completely change the plan for your life during your senior year of college! This is when you’re “supposed to have everything figured out”. Wow. If that isn’t the biggest misconception about your senior year in college, I don’t know what is. Plot twist: No one has everything figured out. Through prayer, many conversations with family, and a look into what my career could look like, I decided it was time to switch.  I changed my major to exercise science to allow me to have room to finish a Spanish minor and a business minor. After I switched I finally felt at peace and His plans were made clear from then on.

After months of applying to different post-grad internships, I finally interviewed and accepted a dream position…

I’m moving to NEW YORK CITY! I’m blessed to say that for the next 6 months, I will be working for INSIDER (Business Insider‘s latest startup) as a social media intern! It’s going to be a crazy time figuring out subway schedules, cold weather (I just invested in my first puffy jacket, oh lawd) and small apartment spaces, but I.AM.READY.

My plan is to attend graduate school in Fall 2017 for a Master’s in Business Administration. Where will I go? I don’t know. But I know that the Lord that has guided my footsteps this far, will continue to do so. I’ll definitely be sharing about all of my New York first’s (hopefully including my encounter with Billy On The Street) and stories here on the blog, so please subscribe to stay up to date with my new adventures (via the sidebar or the pop-up form!). Thank you to all of my friends, family, and teachers that have supported me. I’m going to New York!

P.S. Feel free to keep up with me on Instagram and Facebook as well!
